Comprehensive
PPMC has the tools and experience to provide you with a full pole maintenance program. In addition to inspection of wood utility poles we also provide services such as asset data collection, sub-meter GPS, steel tower maintenance, and steel stubbing.
SOUND AND BORE
Sound and bore involves striking a pole with a hammer from groundline to as high as the inspector can reach and detecting voids by the hollow sound. A bore hole is drilled at ground line to detect internal decay. An experienced inspector can obtain significant information about a pole by listening to the sounds and noticing the feel of the hammer. Cobra Rods are a safe, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved wood decay protection and prevention system. Cobra Rods are a wood preservative, fungicide, and insecticide that's safe to handle.
EXCAVation
Treatment programs with Genics Cub 20. CuB 20 Paste is an industry leading, environmentally friendly water based gel-like brush on wood treatment. CuB 20 is solvent free and will powerfully protect your wood with Copper and Boron for up to 10 years. When excavation is deemed necessary a hole is dug all the way around the pole to a depth of 18
inches, wide enough at the top and bottom to facilitate proper inspection, decay removal and treatment.
STeel tower
Steel towers and poles do indeed degrade over time as a result of corrosion and mechanical damage. The below-grade condition of steel structures and foundations represent significant safety, reliability and financial risks for electric utilities. We repair and prevent corrosion on steel towers, poles, anchors and other steel structures. By providing accurate inspections, effective mitigation methods, and structural repairs that can restore original strength, electric utilities can add many years of additional service to aging steel assets.
Pole Reinforcement
An aggressive pole inspection and reinforcing program can save hundreds of thousands of dollars each year over change out costs. Installing a reinforcing system can restore decayed old poles back to new pole strengths for a fraction of the cost instead of changing them out, extending the service life another 20 - 30 years.
Visuals
Inspection conducted on a Power pole from top of the pole to ground level. Visual inspection shall include, but not be limited to, GIS Support structure number (pole number), pole ownership, pole size, class, installation date, pole material type, original treatment, woodpecker damage, evidence of ants or termites, split pole tops, lightning damage or other physical damage, broken ground wire, broken or split crossarms, broken/slack guy wire, broken/missing insulator, tree limbs, leaking distribution transformers, failed lightning arrestors, excessive leaning, and other damage visible from the ground.
